Federal Skilled Worker Class (Professionals)
This stream allows workers to apply for permanent residency based on their experience and education. Canada wants workers who have a high skill level in Canadian National Occupational Classifications (NOC)
type ‘O’, ‘A’ & ‘B.’
Key Items to Know:
-Must have at least one year of work experience in skill type ‘O’, ‘A’ or ‘B’ Canadian National Occupational Classification within previous 10 years and performed the substantially the lead statement of the job type.
-If the applicant has arranged employment then LICO (Low Income Cut-Off) does not apply otherwise the applicant must meet minimum LICO requirements for themselves and family members.
-Based on a points system comprised of ‘education, language proficiency, experience, age, arranged employment and adaptability.’
-Substituted evaluation may be available, if the officer believes the point total is not a sufficient indicator of whether or not the applicant may become economically established in Canada. This does not overcome LICO issues and failure to meet the definition of the skilled worker.
